How It Works
Connect your Tesla account
Sign in securely via Tesla OAuth. We never see or store your Tesla password.
Add your Octopus Energy credentials
Enter your Octopus account number and API key so we can read your Intelligent Go tariff and dispatch schedule.
Automatic sync, every minute
The app checks for tariff changes and EV smart charging dispatches, then pushes updates to your Powerwall automatically. Close the browser — it keeps running in the background, 24/7.
Features
Real-time rate syncing
Octopus Intelligent Go import and export rates are mapped to your Powerwall's time-of-use schedule in half-hourly slots.
EV dispatch awareness
When Octopus schedules cheap off-peak charging for your EV, those slots are reflected in your Powerwall plan automatically.
Smart battery reserve
Battery backup reserve is set to 100% during off-peak hours to maximise cheap energy storage, and 0% on-peak to discharge before importing.
Change detection
The TOU plan is only pushed to Tesla when something actually changes. No redundant API calls, no unnecessary updates.
Privacy-first
Tesla authentication uses OAuth — we never see your password. Only your Octopus account number and API key are stored.
Always on, zero maintenance
Once configured, syncing continues 24/7 in the background. No need to keep a browser open or run anything on your end.
Who Is This For
- • Tesla Powerwall owners on the Octopus Intelligent Go tariff who want their TOU schedule to stay in sync automatically.
- • EV owners whose Powerwall should align with Intelligent Go's smart charging dispatches — no more manual schedule tweaking.
- • Anyone tired of updating their Powerwall utility rate plan by hand every time Octopus changes the off-peak windows.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Octopus Intelligent Go and how does it work with Tesla Powerwall?
Octopus Intelligent Go is a smart electricity tariff that offers cheap off-peak rates, especially for EV owners. It dynamically schedules off-peak windows based on grid conditions and your EV charging needs. This tool reads those schedules and programs your Tesla Powerwall's time-of-use plan to match, so your battery charges during cheap periods and discharges during expensive ones.
How does the Tesla Powerwall time-of-use sync work?
Every minute, the app fetches your current Octopus Intelligent Go tariff rates and any planned EV charging dispatches. It converts these into half-hourly time-of-use periods and compares them against what's currently set on your Powerwall. If anything has changed, it pushes the updated schedule via the Tesla Fleet API. If nothing has changed, it does nothing.
Is my data safe? What information do you store?
Tesla authentication uses OAuth — we redirect you to Tesla's own login page and receive a token back. We never see or store your Tesla password. The only data stored is your Octopus account number and API key (needed to fetch tariff data) and your Tesla access token (needed to update your Powerwall). All data is held in an encrypted Redis store.
Does this work with other Octopus tariffs?
Currently, only Octopus Intelligent Go (import) with a fixed export tariff is supported. Support for other variable tariffs like Agile Octopus may be added in the future.
What happens when Octopus schedules smart charging for my EV?
When Intelligent Go creates additional off-peak charging slots for your EV, those dispatch windows are picked up automatically and merged into your Powerwall's TOU schedule. Your Powerwall will treat those periods as off-peak, charging from the grid at the cheap rate alongside your EV.
How often does it update my Powerwall?
The sync runs every minute. However, it only pushes an update to Tesla when the TOU plan has actually changed. The plan name in your Tesla app includes a timestamp so you can see when the last update was pushed.
Do I need to keep the browser open?
No. Once you've signed in and configured your Octopus credentials, syncing runs continuously in the background. You can close your browser, sign out, or forget about it entirely. It will keep working.
Which Tesla Powerwall models are supported?
This has been tested with the Tesla Powerwall 3. It should work with any Powerwall that supports time-of-use scheduling via the Tesla Fleet API.
